My husband (J) and I are in our mid-late twenties, celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary next week. Our second house that we bought together was our forever home, or so we thought. We decided that before our two precious children came along with all their "stuff." Three years later, we were out of room in our forever home. Even though we loved this house with all our hearts, we couldn't entertain our extended family or have friends over without being uncomfortable. So, we put our house on the market and the search began.
We looked at A LOT of houses! I was a realtor.com fool, checking online five times a day. None compared to our forever home. We couldn't see selling a house we loved to buy a house that would do. We talked about building and it seemed kind of scary to us, since we've never built before. My husband and I are planners, not really risk-takers. Surprisingly, it didn't take us long to make a decision. We were no longer looking for a house to buy, but for a house to rent. Seven months after putting our house on the market we were at the closing company and were moving into a rent house.
So, here we are. Copies of our house plan scattered about, pages in home design books "dog-eared", endless pictures of fireplaces and sinks and lights saved to my laptop. The fun is beginning.
We have a lot in a subdivision and it started out mostly wooded. The trees have been cleared and the lot is staked. We are now waiting for bank stuff to come back so we can begin the foundation. I am starting this blog so that we can look back, years down the road, at the different stages of building. I also want our out-of-town family to be able to keep up with this exciting time in our lives.
Our lot, slightly sloped, with trees beginning to be cut down.

Standing at the front corner of the lot, trees are marked that are staying.

Most of the trees are cut and ready to be burned.

Standing at the other front corner of the lot, most trees are cleared.

We are so excited that we will soon be living in this quiet, child-friendly neighborhood. We envision lots of birthday parties here for our kids and all of our family here for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We want a home that our children can bring their friends to and have space to run and play. We are so blessed with the opportunity to build the house of our dreams. Come back and follow us on our journey!
