Hard Rock

My husband is the drummer of a band, On the Verge. They play some awesome classic rock from the 70's and 80's and some blues. J began playing with the band about four years ago. They started out in coffee shops, at our local fairs and festivals, and playing at charitable events in our county. Through the years, their sound has improved tremendously and they are becoming well-known, not just in our town but surrounding cities. They have even started opening for big artists, Restless Heart, Kansas, Little Big Town, 38 Special, Steve Miller Band, and for Travis Tritt next month!

Two weekends ago, the band played at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It was amazing!! We all (their groupies) traveled with them and got hotel rooms so we could enjoy the whole weekend.

It was tradition for my brother and I as kids...once we checked into a hotel room, we were allowed to jump on the bed for a few minutes and then the fun was over. So we carried on the tradition by allowing the kids to jump their hearts out. I sure hope we aren't the only ones that do this!

B thinks he's getting that king bed all to himself.....sorry brother, you get the pack-n-play!

I love my drummer!

I am so proud of him. He played drums in band in junior high and high school (that's where we met) and he has been able to continue his love for music through this outlet. He plays by ear and recently started singing back-up vocals at the same time. Pure talent if you ask me!

It was a wonderful night...and less than a week later their agent got a call from Hard Rock wanting them to come back! Umm, yes, I think we can make that happen!

Parenting Advice

Today at Kelly's Korner her readers are sharing parenting advice. I would like to share about a book that we read and a class we took, "On Becoming Baby Wise."

We took the class while pregnant with our first child. I know that this is a controversial book, but we have found it to be the best thing for our family. It worked so well with our first child that we implemented the Babywise ways with our second child.

If you have never heard of it, it basically teaches you all about scheduling and how to feed your child on schedules, rather than feeding on demand. You learn ways to get your child in a routine so that they know what to expect.

Scheduling does not work for some families and that is okay. It worked awesome for us. Our children were sleeping completely through the night at around 9 weeks and they were sleeping 12 hours. They were such happy and content babies because they knew what to expect. Once our routine was established, we could lay them down and they would go to sleep, no crying.

The book also stresses the importance of not using a crutch to get them to fall asleep, driving around in the car, playing music, using a special blanket every night.

There are several other books by this author, Gary Ezzo, that help as your child ages. We took the class that goes along with "On Becoming Toddlerwise." It was wonderful!

Outside of these books, my only other advice is to be consistent with your parenting, read to them every night, and love them with all your heart.

Go on a tour with me!

Finally...pictures of our abode, our homestead, our casa.....

Let's go inside!

When you go in the front door, the entry opens up into the dining room on the left and the great room straight ahead.

To the right is a hallway that leads to the kids' bathroom and their bedrooms.

Between the dining room and kitchen is a desk area and pantry. And just fyi, my type a and perfectionist personality is causing me to NOT want to post the picture of the pantry...keep in mind I've been on my rear for the last seven weeks allowing my foot to heal. Ha!

After going through that little area it opens to the great room- kitchen, family room, and breakfast nook.

There is a hallway just off the breakfast nook that goes to the playroom, 3/4 bathroom, and mudroom. The stairs that go to the 2nd floor bonus room are also off this hallway. This will be a future theatre. It has carpet, paint, and is wired for sound, that's all- so it is not deserving of a picture quite yet.

On the other side of the house, just off the family room, is the master bedroom and bathroom.

We sure love it...and are thrilled to be done...and will never do it again....just sayin'.
