Let's Get Cookin'

We ordered some appliances today! Sears was having the most incredible sale on Kenmore appliances. I picked out my double wall ovens. They are Kenmore 30" ovens and are both self-cleaning. WAHOO!

Oh, did I mention they were HALF OFF??!!!!!!

I was also able to get the cooktop I wanted BADLY because of all the money we were saving. It is a Kenmore Elite 36" cooktop and best of all...it is knobless. It will make cleaning a breeze! It was 30% off. I can't wait to cook my sweetie one of his favorite meals....fried chicken, mashed potatoes, biscuits, gravy, and corn and actually have enough room on the stove top for all the pans at once!

I am looking forward to cooking the first meal in our new home!!

Update

Here's what's happening in our world right now. The plumbing is finished for now. We have hired a heat and air guy, an electrician, and are trying to come to an agreement on siding and cedar shakes so that guy can begin. I am placing furniture (on paper) so I can figure out lighting and electrical outlets. The stairs to the bonus room are finished, as well as the floor and walls upstairs. We need to start talking about insulation and have to get our bathroom vents soon.

I am excited with all the progress that is taking place, but I do have to admit....we are getting tired already. This is a BIG undertaking. Move in day can't come fast enough. :)

We visited the pumpkin patch today and our babies had the best time running around and choosing their pumpkin to bring home.

Hardwood Flooring....A Family Affair

We all went to pick up our hardwood flooring Thursday night. The kids were so happy and content while waiting on Daddy to get the wood loaded and tied down. All 3,800 lbs of it!

We have to admit, when ordering things online, even when reading good reviews, we are always a little worried/skeptical until the product comes in and we're able to see it ourselves. We are so happy that this flooring is beyond gorgeous! It is exactly what we wanted.

Plumbing

The plumber came out yesterday and started his job...drains, vents, copper piping, spicots. The light and water company also made an appearance and told us where we could hook into the sewer. All is looking good!

Our flooring has arrived and we get to pick it up on Friday. Can't wait to see it! Now, to think of a place to store all 108 boxes until they're needed.

Bulleted Update without Pictures

We got a lot accomplished on the house this week!

*The shingles are on and look awesome!

*About 95% of the windows are in and I am SO happy that we chose the dark windows. They look incredible!!!

*The chimney was built, in the wrong location, but it will work out with some extra piping.

*The owner of the brick company came out today and measured for bricks. We are ordering 16,000 of those beauties. Eeeek.

*We hired a plumber today and he will start on Monday. I have to go tomorrow and choose 2 more shower faucets.

*We ordered our hardwood flooring yesterday. Of course, we aren't ready for it yet, but we came upon a great deal that we couldn't pass up. I am tickled over our choice and can't wait to see it!

*We need to go choose our fireplace asap.

*The doors are still waiting to get put on, maybe Monday.

*I am getting ideas for porch columns- size, placement, etc.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG!

Decisions, decisions!

This is what my kitchen counter looks like right now.....

....covered in samples of trim, cedar shakes, shingles and our window and brick we have picked out. Hopefully we will actually get to sit down together tomorrow and decide on everything.

If we choose our shingles quick, our roofer can get started on Tuesday! That's exciting!!

Our windows were picked up from our house last Tuesday and taken back to the factory to be tested. They found that they weren't properly prepped before getting coated. That is why the brown was chipping off. So, they started the process over and were curing the last few days. They should have been delivered today, but they may have needed an extra day to cure.

The front door/sidelights/transom and the back door were delivered today and we love them! They will be painted black and I can't hardly wait to see them after they're put in.

Yesterday, we went to Lowes to pick out the kids' bathroom tub shower and faucet. That is the only shower that is not going to be tiled. It will be drilled into the stud walls, so our contractor needed it asap. J went and picked it up tonight. My only requests when choosing the shower were that it is white and that there are no bars or crevices to clean around. We did good- it meets both requirements!

I think that is all that is going on with the actual house for the time being....but that can change in no time at all! Our to-do list is definitely growing and we are trying our best to juggle all the plates. ;) J is finished coaching golf for the season, he has a huge project behind him at work, and he graduates in 2 months! We both CAN'T WAIT to check that one off the list.

I hope for it to be an exciting and busy week at the house. Maybe I'll have some new pics to show soon!

Have a restful weekend!!

Porch Progress

Slowly, but surely the workers have just about finished the porch.

We walked through the house today after church. The kids love to go over there, especially G. She may be more excited than her momma when we finally get to move in.

B just likes to run through the house and squeeze through the boards, pick up nails, normal boy stuff.

I took this picture standing at the front door, so you are looking thru the foyer, the dining room is on the left, the great room is on the right, and J and B are in the kitchen.

Now I am standing in the great room and the boys are in the breakfast nook. I will love sitting at the dinner table, looking out that big window, and watching the sun set over the trees in the back. I can't wait for that!

The windows were delivered the beginning of last week and they are beautiful, exactly as we had pictured. Unfortunately, we had to call the company to come and take a look at them because the brown finish on the outside is coming off. We are really disappointed and hope that they can figure out what kind of error was made while the windows were being made at the factory. They are suppose to send someone tomorrow or Tuesday to take a peek. We also hope that our contractor can find enough work to be done on our house while we are waiting on the window situation. We sure don't want a stand-still.

We should be getting roof bids back and shingles should be started very soon!
